The Court of Guarantee of Traiguén decreed a new preventive prison against Emilio Berkhoff, accused of being the former leader of the Arauco-Malleco Coordinator (CAM), for his alleged participation in an arson attack and an assault on a farm in the Lumaco commune at the end of May.

In mid-June, the pro-Mapuche activist had already remained with the same caution for drug trafficking charges, after being arrested in the framework of a PDI operation that disrupted a network that operated in different regions of the north, center and south of the country.

This Monday was formalized by the fact registered in the El Retiro de la Forestal Mininco farm on May 30, in which four machines were burned, leaving damages valued at 350 million pesos, and also two vans were stolen that those responsible used to flee.

Two testimonies led the Prosecutor’s Office to identify him as one of the perpetrators of the attack, among them, a complaint that assured that when he was arrested for drug trafficking, Berkhoff wore a “coat just like the one that was stolen from one of the farm workers.

A period of two months was defined for the investigation of this case.
