Three people were in preventive detention this Saturday after being accused of participating in the incidents that occurred yesterday, in the vicinity of Plaza Baquedano, after a new day of demonstrations in Santiago.
One of those involved, 34, was arrested for throwing a Molotov cocktail and set fire to a Carabineros vehicle, a fact that was recorded in the cameras of an undercover police officer.
The defendant, who had no prior record and who the police identified as “an engineer”, was formalized this afternoon by attempted homicide against active Carabineros and also for the crime of incendiary device launch.
According to the Third Guarantee Court of Santiago, this person must serve preventive detention while the investigation lasts.
“In the videos that we were able to observe the fraud of both the people and the person who was formalized is appreciated, in the sense of seeking and trying to obtain the death of the police officers, through the voices that summoned them to burn and kill them, “said the prosecutor Macarena Cañas, of the North Central Metropolitan Prosecutor’s Office.
Two brothers in preventive detention
Meanwhile, the preventive detention of two brothers was also reported accused of throwing firebombs at the protests on Friday.
The Seventh Guarantee Court of Santiago recognized the commission of these crimes, specifically the launching of Molotov cocktails twice different in the Alameda.
“Two brothers were formalized, who were also participating in these disturbances, who in in this case they were caught throwing Molotov cocktails on two separate occasions “, detailed the prosecutor Cañas.
In all these cases, the Government, through the Ministry of the Interior, participates as a complainant.
