The daughter of the late President Eduardo Frei Montalva, Carmen Frei, and the head of the DC Senate, Ximena Rincón, criticized the National Television Council (CNTV) for not awarding funds to the series “Magnicidio”.
The series shows the story of the former president and his death. It was produced by the director and actor Pablo Díaz, who was bidding for $ 499 million.
Former senator Frei Ruiz-Tagle and three of her children, María Paz Ortega Frei, Eugenio Ortega Frei and María Francisca Ortega Frei, pointed out in the statement that the series ‘Assassination, the assassination of the president’, “aims to highlight the importance history of Eduardo Frei Montalva “.
“This work describes his opposition to the 1980 plebiscite and to the constitutional project that arose from that act. Also how he was harassed, persecuted and assassinated by the Chilean military dictatorship,” they added.
“This story deserves to be told”
“We have the deepest conviction that this story deserves to be told and known by our country. This is not only important for a political sector, but also for an entire country that discovered, after many attempts at concealment, the assassination of a President of the Republic ”, they affirm.
Then they add that “the political blockade that this work has suffered is evident. This veto is in evidence, as recorded in the voting records for two consecutive years, where all the right-wing advisers of the CNTV did not grant a single vote to ‘Assassination’ “, they assure.
Ximena Rincón: “standard double”
For her part, the head of the DC Senate, Ximena Rincón, pointed out that “the issue of human rights cannot have a double standard. And that applies to Chile, to Venezuela, and to any country ”.
“Human rights must always be defended and must be a priority element in our work, especially when we are in politics. We cannot have a double standard and talk about human rights in Venezuela and remain silent about human rights in Chile, ”said the head of the DC bench.
Finally, Rincón stated that “the non-promotion of the series based on Carmen Frei’s book is something that must be explained, technical reasons are not enough. And the country deserves an explanation. Hence the support for the Frei family, Carmen Frei, children and grandchildren ”.
