During the night of this Thursday several people were surprised by the flashes that they could see in the sky. Some thought that they were extremely bright stars and others that we were in the presence of unidentified flying objects (UFOs).

However, the explanation is different and is attributed to SpaceX satellites. Today was the fourth launch of the year that it launched 60 devices on the Starlink internet network. In turn, it is the 17th launch of the company.

The company SpaceX, from the tycoon Elon musk, which already has more than a thousand satellites and another 60 will be added tomorrow, Friday, if the launch is successful. When complete, the Starlink network will consist of 1,440 satellites.

A two-phase Falcon 9 rocket took off from Cape Canaveral (Florida), with the satellites at the tip and, approximately nine minutes later, phase one of the spacecraft landed gently on the platform “Of Course I Still Love You” located in the Atlantic about 630 km. of the coast.

It is also the fifth time that phase one of this Falcon 9 rocket has been used, which had been used for the last time before today 27 days ago, a record in SpaceX accounts.

Launching a Falcon 9 rocket

Since 2010 there have been 107 Falcon 9 rocket launches from Elon Musk’s company, owner also of Tesla electric cars, and NASA partner in the program to send astronauts to the International Space Station in commercial spacecraft from US soil.

Tomorrow’s launch is scheduled for 07:14 Chilean time. The two missions were originally planned to depart today less than five hours apart, but on Wednesday SpaceX announced that it was postponing one of them until Friday to allow more time for pre-flight checks.
