“They are destroying me”: Collipulli fruit businessman denounces attacks by former CAM leader | National

A fruit businessman from the Collipulli area, La Araucanía region, denounced Victor Ancalaf, former leader of the Coordinadora Arauco Malleco (CAM), for attacking and threatening his work and that of his 300 workers, mostly Mapuche, who move to his 300-hectare property to harvest blueberries and cherries.

Through an audio that reached BioBioChile, Cesar Hompart (43), described that for two days in a row, Friday and Saturday, Ancalaf, along with his son and a third subject, have arrived at the entrance of the land of around 300 hectares, to interpose and block the passage with threats from minibuses transporting workers, at around 8:00 a.m. each of the sessions.

The businessman manifests desperate by the situation.

“They are destroying me. This field has always been a model of innovation in fruit growing that the Government wants so much to promote in this beautiful region, but when it comes to quiubosHe was left alone, ”said Hompart, in part of the communication, which was confirmed by BBCL, after talking with the civil engineer from Concepción.


“The workers heard that war was declared, that we abstain from the consequences, that this field was in recovery and that we leave, with one hand forward and the other behind, “added Hompart.

“I lost what little faith I had, I’m demoralized, I don’t know what to do (…) I have my son frightened in the field, a family destroyed and 300 families who eat (…) They are going to the crest, and we are leaving this region ”, he added.

In conversation with BBCL, the same businessman pointed out that the fruit plantation is 180 hectares and that during these days he must harvest the blueberries to avoid damaging them after their extraction date.

Too, Hompart He emphasized that 80% of its workers are of Mapuche origin and these “vindication” actions only threaten a productive area that is advantageous for all.

Likewise, he stressed that, despite having police protection, for months he has been harassed by Ancalaf, who, according to the businessman, has been at the forefront of attacks against him and his family, which have intensified in the last time.

Businessmen call for self-defense

Meanwhile, the Temuco Agricultural Development Society called the “self defense” by its associates.

“I call on farmers to be vigilant, to prepare very well for their own defense, the harvest will be very difficult and we will have to defend it personally with our own means,” he said. Roberto Heise, President of the Sociedad de Fomento Agrícola de Temuco.
