(EFE) – The Vatican believes “inappropriate” to resort to photocopies or pamphlets of liturgical books at Masses, as recalled today in a document that includes a series of recommendations for readings at Mass.
The prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, Robert Sarah, issued this decalogue of recommendations to “rekindle awareness of the importance and value of the Scriptures in the Christian life.”
One of its points invites us to “take care of the material aspect and the good use” of the Sacred Books and ditch: “It is inappropriate to use brochures, photocopies or subsidies to substitute liturgical books”.

The Holy See also highlights the importance of the place where ecclesiastical texts are supported and read, the ambo or pulpit.
“It is not a question of a functional piece of furniture, but of the place appropriate to the dignity of the Word of God, in correspondence with the altar”, it is remembered.
This pulpit in the altars of churches is reserved for readings, the singing of the psalm, the Easter proclamation, homilies or to proclaim prayer intentions to the faithful. But “It is not advisable” for the priest, or a lay person, “to access him for comments or warnings.”
Among other things, the Vatican advises priests, deacons and readers to “avoid improvisation” when reading the texts and recalls the importance of silences to “promote meditation” of the assembly of the faithful.
