The President of the National Federation of the Italian Medical Association (Fnomceo), Filippo Anelli, asked the Government for the total closure of the country given the current state of hospitals that are beginning to collapse due to the numbers sick with coronavirus.
Anelli warned that “If we consider this week’s data as a typical trend and if we project it without anticipating further increases, the situation in a month will be dramatic and therefore we must immediately resort to a total closure.”
“Either we block the virus or it will block us because they are warning us that the system does not hold and even the now yellow regions will soon find themselves in the same condition as the worst affected areas, “said Anelli.
The northern regions of Lombardy, Piedmont and the Aosta Valley and southern Calabria have been classified as a red zone by the Government and have been subjected to soft confinement, with the prohibition of leaving the region or leaving home if not to go to work, shopping or for health or emergency reasons.
While Campania has been classified as a yellow zone and therefore has no major restrictions.
However, from some hospitals in the Campania region a request for help was raised in the face of a situation of emergency with lines of cars with patients waiting to be examined.
“With the current average, in a month we would reach 10,000 more deaths”, he alerted.
On the other hand, the adviser of the Ministry of Health for the emergency, Walter Ricciardi, also affirmed last night on a television program that “absolutely rapid interventions are needed or a national tragedy is coming.”
Meanwhile, the Government is evaluating raising the risk of some regions and Campania, Veneto and Tuscany may in the next few hours be considered an orange or red zone.
While Alto Adige decided this Sunday autonomously to consider itself a red zone and apply the soft confinement that already exists in other regions.
For the one from Naples, in the Campania region, Luigi De Magistris, “proclaiming the region as a red zone is unfortunately an inevitable decision, in fact it is a late decision.”
For his part, that the mayor of Palermo, in Sicily, Leoluca Orlando assured that “progress is being made towards an announced massacre.”
Italy registered 32,616 cases of coronavirus and 331 deaths in the last hours.
The data of infections in the last 24 hours are lower than those of Saturday, but they were carried out 191.14 tests, much less than the 231.673 of that day.
But above all, the number of hospitalized patients with symptoms continues to increase, numbering now 29,189, representing an increase of 1,446 more than the previous day, and those admitted to intensive care units also increased by 115, which is now 2,749.
