“I think that tomorrow we should start Caracas early, as soon as the fair closes, put a bomb inside the police station if we are artos we could do it (sic)”. This is one of the messages that on July 14 of this year Ricardo Echeverría González (29) sent to one of his WhatsApp contacts, with whom he would have coordinated a series of attacks on the Peñalolén Sub-police Station. By that date, the young man, nicknamed as “Simonky”, He was not followed by the OS-7 of the Carabineros, nor had his communications been intervened. But there was little left.
The “Simonky” was captured on August 3, after he was arrested in flagrante delicto for throwing Molotov cocktails at the Peñalolén Sub-police Station. This police unit became the Carabineros barracks most attacked in the last year, when, as part of the protests, the police stations became one of the focal points for attacks by hooded men. This particular unit has received 153 attacks, ranging from stone throwing to shooting with firearms.
After being detained by the OS-7, by order of the Prosecutor Oriente Miguel Angel Orellana, the fate of “Simonky” and his group, “The Antiyuta 21 “, it was sealed. Investigators intuited that this arrest would give them a thread that, when thrown, would throw up more than one surprise, and it did.
On August 4, prosecutor Orellana submitted a letter to the 13th Guarantee Court of Santiago to request the extraction of information from Echeverría’s phone, in addition to intervening your communications.
Immediately afterwards, different intrusion measures began to be decreed in the circle of “Los Antiyuta 21”, which were defined this Thursday by the prosecution and Carabineros as an organization dedicated to attacking the police personnel of Peñalolén.
The OS-7, in addition to wiretapping, monitoring and georeferencing of their homes, also he intervened in this nucleus of the Lo Hermida population with at least two undercover agents.
By September 10, the wiretaps began to pay off. The prosecution entered a letter to the court to, now, tap the phone of two other suspects: “El Locotrón” (20) and “19” (19). In this document, the Public Ministry revealed the conversations that “Simonky” had with other contacts, where they were organized to, presumably, attack police stations and attack Carabineros.
“Locotrón” is also being investigated for his alleged responsibility in the attack on a police officer this Sunday.
“Curo make money to buy juice and don’t get caught. We have a duck there in Greece, so get together monea ”, says an audio message that“ Locotrón ”sent on July 15 to a group in which he shared with“ Simonky ”, who in another message criticized the little support they were finding from other criminal groups.
In the verbatim transcription of the message that “Simonky” sends to a WhatsApp group, it reads: “That wea has me flat, brother. If we had the support of the traffickers and the thugs, everything would be very different instead of (sic) fighting with the pacos, there are crazy people who annoy those who protest, as if they had no children, mothers, grandparents. This government that takes advantage of us wn, I am terrible piola but I love to fight with the yuta but I think that we must start to act more directly, but support is lacking ”.
In other communications between the group, in which there are at least 15 people, Coordination of the burning of police “skunks”, the launching of Molotov cocktails and coordination to meet on Avenida Grecia to light barricades. The court authorized the diligence and the prosecution concluded in its brief that “The defendants plan to use said elements against Carabineros personnel, including inside police cars ‘with the cops inside’, which accounts for the planning of serious crimes against the integrity of the police personnel, such as homicide crimes, injuries, which shows the degree of danger of this group ”.
The investigation progressed until OS-7 raided 13 homes in Peñalolén on Thursday, where the arrest of 10 people for the crimes of illicit association and violation of the Weapons Law. Of these, four had a criminal record.
The general director of the Carabineros, Mario Rozas, noted that “They are not demonstrations, they were not expressions of the community, but vandalism and today we are bringing those responsible to justice.”
For his part, the Eastern regional prosecutor, Manuel Guerra, detailed the profile of the suspects, who perpetrated at least 13 attacks on the sub-police station, between August and October. “It is an organized structure, there was a distribution of roles, people who performed different functions,” he said.
Meanwhile, the undersecretary of the Interior, Juan Francisco Galli, argued that “This is an initial phase of an investigation that we hope will determine that there was an organization here that was dedicated to very serious crimes.”
But not everyone is happy. “Simonky”, who has been in preventive prison since August, was “founded” this Thursday on his social networks, since They pointed him out as an “informant” for the police. The aforementioned, from prison, defended himself by answering each insult, until in an Instagram story he published: “Never toad, not even less hand in hand with the pacos.
An analysis of OS-7, in addition, warned that of the 10 detainees, there are two people who are over 50 years old, who “exercised leadership functions for the attacks on the barracks.” There could be more arrests over the next few months as the investigations will continue.
