Despite the criticism, the Government has not backtracked on its plan “Fondéate en tu casa”, with which it seeks to regulate the festivities of National Holidays this year, which will be marked by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The plan, which was announced on Wednesday amid confusing information provided by the same authorities such as the suspension of the quarantine – which was later corrected by authorities – has been criticized by experts, who warn that with these permits for family reunions “we are not going to have a second wave, it will be a tsunami ”.
But in addition, a new flank was opened to the Government after the statements of the mayor of the Biobío Region, Sergio Giacaman, who asked the Minister of Health, Enrique Paris, to reevaluate the plan because it is “a permissive and contradictory measure with the implementation of the quarantines that we have defined for seven communes of Greater Concepción ”.
In the balance of this Friday, however, the Government turned a deaf ear and ratified the plan, with the presence included in the panel of the minister spokesman for the Government, Jaime Bellolio. And both the spokesperson and the Minister of Health Enrique Paris publicly scratched the pitch for the Penquista regional chief, asking him to align himself with the central strategy.
“At the regional level, I would like to acknowledge the efforts of the regions, but also call attention to some regional authorities, who have to join the national effort and not have opinions that are sometimes legitimate but that delegitimize the national opinion that we have tried to transmit ”, said Minister Paris. “I am referring above all to some regional authorities who have asked me personally to launch or communicate this message, especially in the Biobío Region,” he said.
For his part, Bellolio pointed out that “it is important that this national plan has the support of the mayors. I have spoken with the mayor of Biobío who has told me that he is going to correct his statements.”
La Moneda’s public slap on the wrist to Giacaman generated a strong controversy because immediately the president of the UDI and senator for the Biobío Jacqueline Van Rysselberghe came out in his support.
“I am going to call Jaime Bellolio, because I think they are making a mistake,” said the parliamentarian.
“The Mayor is the representative of the president, not of the Segpres or of any ministry (…)” what he did is do what corresponds, which is to tell Santiago that here it is a mistake in communes where there is quarantine in treating them the same as the communes that may be in a transition or stage 3 ″, indicated the president of the UDI, in statements cited by Radio Bío Bío.
“Not to lower your guard”
During today’s Covid balance sheet, the authorities, along with presenting the official logo of the plan, insisted that it has a “sense of reality” because it will not be a normal weekend, but a date where it is customary to meet as a family or celebrate in public places.
“We understand that there are many people who have had a very bad time during these months and want to meet their family, but this 18 we have to take care of each other,” said the Secretary of State, calling to “not lower our guard”, in a signal of tranquility.
Later he recalled that with this plan the quarantines will not be lifted, but that “there will be a special permit for days 18, 19 and 20 of up to six hours where meetings can be held with a maximum of five people at home, additional to the people who inhabit that place. Or ten people who are in a public space ”.
“Restrictive” plan
Minister Bellolio explained that, contrary to what people believe, the “Fondéate en casa” plan has a “more restrictive” character.
“These are measures that are rather restrictive for September 18, there is no opening logic, the quarantines are maintained. The call is not to lower our guard,” he said.
For example, he specified that without this plan in place, the communes in phase 3 and phase 4 “could have had meetings of 50 or 100 people, therefore, we decided to have a national plan that must be carried out by each of the communes. from the country”.
The Minister of Health, Enrique Paris added that “in this case, as Minister Bellolio has said, we maintain the measure of the ‘Fondéate en casa’ plan, which is much more restrictive than what would have been maintained in normal situations”.
“So after meditating I keep my support and I support the ‘Fondéate en casa’ program,” he concluded.
