This Wednesday, the Government entered a new veto on a project approved by Congress. On this occasion, it is the initiative on the scope of the labor protection procedure, a project presented by opposition senators and that was dispatched on August 18.
After being announced by the Secretary of the Senate, Raúl Guzmán, it will go to the Labor Commission for review.
The purpose of the text is to incorporate the labor protection procedure into public sector labor relations, allowing these workers the legitimate defense of the acts arising from said relationship that violate their fundamental rights.
The project also modifies the Labor Code in terms of clarifying the scope of action of the Labor Directorate in matters of labor protection and clarifies the payment of compensation for public sector workers in case of availing themselves of the complaint for this reason.
According to the information from the Government, the veto seeks to replace one of the articles approved and another to suppress it “with the objective that this procedure is applicable in the clearest and most consistent way possible to public officials.”
Thus, the observations point to the attributions of the Labor Directorate in the application of the labor protection procedure, specifying that the norm does not apply to members of the Armed Forces, Public Order and Security.
Since March, the government has presented four vetoes. Among them, the veto to the project that prohibited the cutting of basic services given the health crisis, the implementation of a new specialized protection system for children and adolescents (new Sename) and the one that allowed the non-payment of circulation permits product of the pandemic.
