“Today we received confirmation from the Pfizer-Biontech laboratory that during This December the plane with the first 20,000 doses of vaccines will land in Chile, which will allow us to immediately begin vaccinating all people who work in the Intensive Care Units (ICU) of our health system in the regions with the highest incidence of coronavirus, such as the Biobío, La Araucanía and Magallanes regions, apart from the staff of the Metropolitan Region “, reported the Head of State.

Along these lines, Piñera explained that together with the Advisory Council for Vaccines and Immunization (Cavei) it was established as a priority for the vaccine, in addition to the aforementioned health personnel, “people deployed in the Covid emergency; second, the elderly and chronically ill, prioritizing those in long-stay centers; and third, other groups of the target population, according to their degree of risk “.

NEW DOSE IN JANUARY

President Piñera also announced that “Starting in January, we will continue to receive new doses of vaccines with the aim of vaccinating the critical and highest-risk population during the first quarter of 2021, continuing with the other groups during the first semester. “

Similarly, he reiterated that the doses will be free and voluntary, adding that the Ministry of Health “will promptly inform the dates and places of vaccination for the different groups of the population.”

“All vaccines in Chile will have the seal of efficacy and safety granted by the most recognized health institutions in the world, the approval of our Institute of Public Health, and always, the science backing, showing categorically and with strong evidence that vaccines protect health and save lives“, he emphasized.

On the other hand, he asserted that “the vaccine will be a powerful instrument to combat the virus, but it will not make it disappear. The coronavirus will remain with us for a long time and we have to learn to live with it“, for which he advocated” the importance of strictly complying with personal care standards “and” sanitary standards established by the health authority. “

COLMED CALLS NOT TO RELAX

For its part, President of the Medical College, Dr. Izkia Siches, called on the public to be cautious and not relax, since 2021 will also have to be started in “Covid mode”.

“We do not yet have the availability to vaccinate risk groups or the more than 15 million people who are the target population. In that line, andhe call of our School is not to relax, to maintain the testing, traceability and isolation measures “he urged.

Meanwhile, “we hope that as we have new studies available, progress can be made in the authorization of vaccines that require less complex storage and distribution conditions.”
