One of the most iconic and favorite films of the Christmas season is immersed in a controversy. My poor angel, the 1990 classic that catapulted little Macaulay Culkin’s career into the role of crafty Kevin McCallister, will be out of television for the first time in its history.

Until last year, the Fox channel was in charge of broadcasting on each Christmas Eve the traditional 21st Century Fox film that tells the story of a child who accidentally remains abandoned at home after his family travels to spend the end of the year holidays in France. A situation that encourages an adventure when the child’s house is threatened by a couple of clumsy robbers, making the boy insist on defending his home.

But this 2020, almost honoring a year full of bad news, the film leaves the small screen. The reason is related to the acquisition of Fox by Disney last year, and in turn, to the landing of the Disney + platform in Latin America about a month ago. For this, the two films starring Culkin, My poor angel (1990) and its second part, My poor little angel: lost in New York (1992), leave the cable signal to join the exclusive content of Disney +.

The tape remains on the Fox app these days, but it will stop working at the end of December, as a result of the change that Fox channels will experience due to the aforementioned transfer to Disney: since February, signals such as Fox Channel, Fox Life and Fox Premium will change their name to “Star” in Latin America.

But one last option for fans of this story opens on open TV: next Thursday, September 24, Channel 13 will broadcast in primetime My poor little angel 2 (10:35 pm) -the first part has already sold out its exhibitions for this year on said channel according to the agreement between Channel 13 and Fox-.

“We are very happy for one more year to be able to accompany the Chilean family with a title that is undoubtedly always in the memory of living Christmas together with My poor angel, in this case for me one of my favorites is the second part, which takes place in New York ”, says the programming director of Channel 13, José Miranda, alluding to this sequel where Kevin, due to an error at the airport, ends in New York while his whole family is going to spend Christmas in Miami.

However, for the executive there may be some future option that allows the film to return to TV, being one of the most popular titles at this time. “What will happen next Christmas is part of an effort that we will make permanently. We have an alliance, a deal with Fox-Disney, which are today our suppliers of international films and fiction, and we will continue to insist and strengthen our alliance trying that next Christmas titles like My poor little angel can continue to be on open TV ” Wait Miranda.

Despite the lukewarm box office results of the three installments after the two original films (released in 1997, 2002 and 2012), without Culkin in the leading role, Disney has among its plans a new version of My poor angel.

And it is that the popularity of the film 30 years after its premiere has prompted the company to embark on a remake of the film, a project that Disney confirmed a year ago and that would be in full process.

It would be a story similar to the original, but this time with an additional attraction: according to some international media, Disney would have a special interest in recruiting Macaulay Culkin himself to make a special appearance in the story, playing a supporting character.

The film would be part of the already extensive Disney + offer, and would feature little Archie Yates, actor of the award-winning Jojo rabbit.
