The spread of coronavirus it has generated endless new behaviors and social changes, it has hit commerce and employment; and in the public and private health centers, the daily scenes are far from what they were a few months ago.
The reason? Everything focuses on the pandemic and already nobody wants to go to clinics or hospitals for consultations or check-ups, for fear of contagion. This has also been reflected in the scheduled surgeries, since by indication only those of extreme urgency are being carried out.
This has affected many doctors. While the profession is known to be stable and well-paid, specialists have seen a decrease in their income due to the lack of patients.
Izkia Siches, president of the Medical College (Colmed), explained to BioBioChile that in the public system professionals have a contract that ensures their remuneration. But in the private system, the situation is different, since many doctors are ticketed and are not salaried.
“By indication, clearly, there are many postponed procedures. Economically for some it has been terrible, since they are seeing their wages postponed, ”he said.
Siches indicated that Clínicas de Chile set up a minute to analyze how to proceed in this regard; and raised the need for a pronouncement by the advisory committee.
“Common gynecological-obstetric, trauma surgeries, to name a few that are not life-threatening, are being postponed for obvious reasons,” he said.
The latter has not only financially affected the doctors, but also the entire team that revolves around surgery, such as arsenals, anesthetists, among others.
The President of Colmed added that the dentists -with a large mass of independent workers- they are also another affected union: consultations and controls are less and less frequent due to the fear of patients of contracting the coronavirus.
For this reason, during the last weeks the College of Dentists announced an aid package for its members.
Finally, Siches expressed that he will deepen this issue with authority, since there may be thousands of patients who are not treating their health problems for fear of going to a medical consultation, clinic or hospital.
