When the president of the Chamber of Deputies, RN Diego Paulsen, announced the result of this vote, applause was registered in the Chamber. The parliamentarians of Chile Vamos celebrated that this initiative did not prosper.
It should be remembered that this reform intended to carry out the creation of an electoral district in which Chileans living abroad would elect three representatives to the Constitutional Convention.
“What a small thing for the crest”
From the opposition there was strong criticism of the right for this vote. The conglomerate Chile Vamos voted en bloc against this constitutional reform.
“The right wing rejects the possibility that the million Chilean men and women living abroad can be part of the democratic process in Chile. Regrettable narrow vision (and heart),” said Deputy Gabriel Boric (CS), who also lashed out the celebration of Chile Vamos en la Sala. “How can you applaud having left out those who want to be part of the future of Chile? What a small thing because of the crest,” he said.
Meanwhile, Matías Walker (DC) declared the following: “regrettable, it fails due to the lack of a Chilean quorum for voting abroad for the election of conventionalists. When the right has to choose, it always opts for less democracy.”
And they applaud in the room. How can you applaud having left out those who want to be part of the future of Chile? What a small thing for the ridge
