Regarding the National Holidays holiday, Pablo Longueira Montes circulated a text called A family reflection for these National Holidays. In it, he refers again to the next constitutional plebiscite of October 25 and dares to give a prediction.
“The approval will exceed 80%”, raises the former parliamentarian. “And I sincerely hope, for the sake of our children and grandchildren, that it exceeds 85%.”
For Longueira, this is because young people who sympathize with the right are not afraid to vote I approve. “Because they are not afraid to defend their ideas with arguments and not with terror campaigns that don’t scare anyone. Today, in Chile, the vast majority of homes have a television. Everyone sees daily how people starve to death in Venezuela and how human rights are violated every day. It is not necessary to remind them in the Rejection campaign ”.
In her message, Longueira appeals above all to the middle class. “The approval will exceed 80% because the vast majority of right-wing middle class households in Chile are for the approval. Why? Because today, in thousands of homes of our middle class, thanks precisely to the Constitution of 1980, there are professionals who are the first in their families. Because today their families have access to goods and services that their parents never dreamed of having ”.
In addition, Longueira took the opportunity to support a possible presidential candidacy of Joaquín Lavín, appealing – as has been his characteristic line – to the support of the popular sectors. “The right-wing people that we conquered in towns and camps, and who still inexplicably live below the poverty line, continue to trust our ideas. They hope that one day, with the help of the State, they may have more and better opportunities to take a more dignified life. They dream of seeing people like Joaquín Lavín become President, because they want greater social integration. They want the benefit of the country’s undeniable progress to be distributed more fairly. They will also vote I approve.
Of course, in his letter, Longueira took the opportunity to review the left. “On the night of November 15, the violence of the undemocratic left of the country, which sought to remove the democratically elected President, did not achieve its objective. That night an institutional path signed by the Government and Parliament was legitimized, in a great agreement called “For Social Peace and New Constitution”.
The union leader pointed out another reason, that the Constitutions “fulfill a cycle”, and detailed it using an example that produced hives in Chile Vamos. “The Constitution of 1980 was finished before the Plebiscite of October 25. So I decided to return. Because a completely Unconstitutional Reform was approved. I am referring to the withdrawal of 10% of pension funds. He was not against that withdrawal if it had been resolved democratically according to the Constitution that all the Parliamentarians and the Executive promised or swore to respect ”.
As he insisted, Longueira states that the plebiscite is “unnecessary”, and that it should go immediately to a Constitutional Convention, he reiterated it again. “I have no fear of going to a Convention to defend our ideas to make a New Constitution based on the current one.”
Going to “defend a Convention” was not raised as a euphemism. He himself indicated that he is going to apply to be a member of the instance. “I came back to be a Convention candidate in the congressional district most averse to our ideas. I returned to compete for the presidency of the UDI because I will fight for the unity of the right so that we can fight on our feet and in a big way. So that together we get more than 50% of the Conventionals ”.
In addition, he expressed his confidence that if Chile Vamos and the Republican Party join forces, they will remove more than a third of the members of the Convention. “In the last election of Deputies of the year 2017, ChileVamos was united and we got 38.99% of the votes. But unlike that election, in this Plebiscite of October 25, the right-wing parties are all divided. Therefore, the Rejection must not exceed 33% ”.
