In the Government they closed ranks with the former Minister of Health, Jaime Mañalich, after this Sunday was presented, at the deadline date, the announced constitutional accusation against him for putting the lives of the population at risk in the management of the pandemic of Covid-19.
The former collaborators of Mañalich in the Minsal, the undersecretaries of Public Health, Paula Daza and of Assistance Networks Arturo Zúñiga, plus the current Minister of Defense, Mario Desbordes, met the opposition libel.
“(The accusation) was presented at the last minute and that speaks of there being no justification for doing so. They had a deadline and could have done it from day one if they had the fundamentals, and that it was done on the last day speaks for itself that there is no reason. Instead of legislating projects such as the reform of Fonasa, part of the opposition is dedicated to presenting accusations without arguments, “he said in Radio Duna Arturo Zúñiga, one of those close to Mañalich who remains in the Minsal.
For her part, the Undersecretary of Public Health, Paula Daza, was also adamant that “there is no foundation here.” “From day one, the minister, even long before the pandemic started, created a Covid-19 prevention and promotion plan, and worked on a care network that has allowed to respond to the care of all patients”, said in Cooperative radio.
The questions to the opposition were reinforced by Mario Desbordes, who during his tenure as president of RN had no problem questioning Mañalich’s management. But now as Defense Minister he came out in his support, pointing out that “there is a sector of the opposition, the Broad Front especially, that presents accusations every month and a half in between (…) In this specific case, against Minister Mañalich there is no foundation. One will be able to question what was done or not done, but it does not give a constitutional accusation, “he commented in Infinite Radio.
“You have to use the tools that the Constitution gives us, but you have to use them well because as so many accusations are presented, they begin to distort,” he added.
The same opposition also recognized this fact, as did the president of the Senate, Adriana Muñoz (PPD). “It seems to me a fairly intense use of the power of the constitutional accusation that the Chamber of Deputies has (…) It seems complex to me three constitutional accusations in a row,” she indicated, alluding to the libel against the minister
“The constitutional accusation is a very serious faculty, it is of enormous weight and it is necessary to attend to use it with enough protection and rigor,” said the president of the Senate in Radio Tele13.
The libel against Mañalich was presented with the signatures basically of deputies of the Broad Front, and the banks of the DC and the PS were subtracted from signing it. In the 50-page, two-chapter document, the former Minister of Health is accused of seriously violating the Constitution and the laws, putting the life and health of the population at risk. In addition, according to one of the promoters, the Commons deputy Claudia Mix, “deliberately concealed data and committed violations of probity.”
