The situation we are seeing is reliving the nightmare of October and November of last year in which the neighbors saw how their neighborhood, their surroundings, the small restaurants, hostels that are in the sector, saw how they destroyed the city, and that we are reliving unfortunately when we have a plebiscite in 15 more days (…) to see this pure and simple crime, where we see real terrorists of the city breaking absolutely everything.
This is how the mayor of Santiago, Felipe Alessandri, reacted in dialogue with Canal 24 Horas, after the riots that occurred this Friday afternoon in the Plaza Baquedano sector during demonstrations, nine years after the social outbreak, where that sector was its epicenter, already a week after the fall of the minor AA to the bed of the Mapocho River, where the prosecution accuses the now ex-Arab Sebastián Zamora of attempted homicide.
“We have three traffic lights destroyed, the Transantiago bus stops that I inaugurated with Minister Hutt a month ago, they are removing the seats in the Forest Park that have been installed for a week. As the mayor’s office, we cannot take it anymore. We invested $ 3 billion that we didn’t have to get the city back, it’s really disappointing. There is a group of 200, 300 people with the desire to destroy the city and destroy the quality of life of the neighbors, not understanding that all this is doing is further polarizing society, “said Alessandri.
The mayor described what happened today as “pure and hard crime”, and stressed that “in the face of this, the communication that I have given in a state of exception like the one we are in, is to exercise authority, we are not afraid to exercise authority. authority, because we have to put order, because I am sure that we are millions of Chileans who want peace, we want to conduct a constituent process, we want everyone to fit in in Chile, but without violence, and we have to condemn it and there are political sectors that do not they have condemned with the force we want and the result is this ”.
The mayor said that the actions of the Carabineros have been “Very timorous, a product of the current political moment that the country is in at this time” and, in his opinion, a product of this “Here it is going to begin that the neighbors themselves are going to come out to defend their territories, and we do not want a civil war … that is how dramatic the situation is.”
In addition, he sent a message to the Public Ministry: “I hope that the prosecutors, who for some things are faster, are there on the ground, because I have not seen them, looking for the criminals, to persecute them with the full force of the law ”.
