Iran assured this Friday that the path of resistance “will not change” despite the assassination a year ago of the commander of the Revolutionary Guard, Qasem Soleimaní, and that the United States should expect more retaliatory actions for his crime.
“Once again I explicitly announce that the path of the Quds Force and the resistance will not change despite the evil acts of the United States,” said Soleimaní’s successor in command of the Revolutionary Guard’s Quds Force, Esmail Qaani.
In a ceremony at the University of Tehran on the occasion of the first anniversary of the assassination of Soleimaní, Qaani stressed that the leadership promoted by the deceased “is still standing.”
“Those who committed this criminal act must be aware that people who seek the freedom of the world will one day respond (to this criminal act) and it is even possible that some people inside their home (US) will respond to their crime. ”He warned.
Soleimaní died in a US selective bombing on January 3, 2020 near Baghdad with the number two of the Iraqi militia group Multitud Popular and leader of Kataib Hezbollah, Abu Mahdi al Mohandes.
A week later, the Revolutionary Guards attacked a major military base in Iraq with missiles with the presence of US troops but, according to Iran, the final revenge has not yet arrived.
Along these lines, the head of the Iranian Judiciary, Ebrahim Raisí, also affirmed during the ceremony that the outgoing US president, Donald Trump, “It is not immune from the administration of justice.”
Escalating tension
Raisí warned that “the enemy must await the harsh revenge of Iran” based, among other aspects, on the expulsion of US troops from the Middle East: “The time and place will be determined by the resistance forces,” he said.
On the occasion of the anniversary, the tension between Iran and the US has increased, which announced yesterday the withdrawal of the only Navy aircraft carrier that was still deployed in the Middle East, due to fear of Iranian retaliatory actions.
This decision comes a day after a group of Air Force B-52 bombers flew directly from the US to the Persian Gulf to deter Iran, which condemned this “provocation” in a letter to the UN Security Council. .
Referring to the B-52 bombers, the head of Iranian diplomacy, Mohamad Yavad Zarif, said yesterday that according to reports from Iraqi intelligence, the US. he is devising “a plot to create a pretext for war.”
“Iran does not seek war, but will OPENLY and DIRECTLY defend its people, their security and their vital interests,” he said in a Twitter message.
Today’s ceremony at the University of Tehran, decorated with numerous photographs of Soleimaní and Al Mohandes, took place amidst great security measures.
The number of guests was reduced, due to the health protocols for the covid-19, highlighting the presence of the commander in chief of the Revolutionary Guard, Hosein Salamí, and the Minister of Intelligence, Mahmud Alaví.
