The quarantine has forced the intensification of night police work, to monitor compliance with both temporary and collective permits. In this context, the Elqui Government and the police were deployed to different neighborhoods of La Antena, which left a balance of 10 detainees for violating article 318 of the Penal Code and one of them for having two pending cases.
Captain Gonzalo Medina, deputy commissioner of the First Police Station of La Serena, pointed out that the night procedures not only seek to supervise compliance with the quarantine, but also to have a greater police presence to increase the public’s sense of security.
“In a short but effective time, we managed to arrest 10 people. One of them had two orders in force for the crime of theft in an uninhabited place and the crime of national property for public use, this subject will be made available to the Public Ministry as well as the rest who have antecedents or recidivism by article 318 of the Penal Code, ”he said.
The governor of Elqui, Gonzalo Chacón, who has led extraordinary police rounds in various sectors of La Serena and Coquimbo, indicated that the high number of detainees reflects that they are not yet aware of the seriousness of not complying with health regulations.
“It was a very successful procedure, to thank the police for their work. We are going to continue monitoring, the neighbors have to respect the quarantine and the curfew. Our duty is to monitor rigorously and to comply with all health regulations ”.
