The Third Oral Criminal Court of Santiago delivered a verdict for the so-called Corpesca case where the former senator of the UDI appeared as defendants, Jaime Orpis and the former deputy for Tarapacá, Marta Isasi.

The court decided acquit Orpis for tax crimes associated with the issuance of fee tickets, for failing to accredit them.

Along with it, it was decided issue a conviction for the former senator for 6 of 8 crimes of tax fraud.

Likewise, the court decided to convict him of two (out of five) bribery crimes, in relation to the presentation before the Comptroller’s Office on the processing of the Fishing Law.

In parallel, the 3rd TOP of the capital acquitted the former deputy Isasi of the tax crimes associated with the issuance of ballots, assuring the magistrate that the prosecution of the Public Ministry had no basis and that the SII or the CDE should have been an active part in the trial .

Meanwhile, it was decided to convict Isasi of a bribery crime (of three that the Prosecutor’s Office accused) after it was verified that he represented the interests of Corpesca before Congress.

Condemn Corpesca

Regarding the fishing company controlled by the Angelini Group, the court decided to convict her for the crime of bribery in relation to the bribery crimes for which the others involved were convicted.

The court found that the company is liable as a legal entity for having a “deficient commitment to legality” and a “board of directors incapable of supervising it.”

The reading of the sentence, meanwhile, was set for April 16, 2021, date in which the time that those involved will have to serve the sentence will be known.
