How “A serious attack on the value of judicial independence”, the Supreme Court spokeswoman, Gloria Ana Chevesich, described the decision of the Chamber of Deputies that was pronounced by majority in favor of the admissibility of the constitutional accusation against the Minister of the Court of Appeals of Valparaíso, Silvana Donoso.
The parliamentary resolution emerged from the questioning of the role of the aforementioned minister, who presided over the commission of conditional liberties of that Buenos Aires judicial body and in which Hugo Bustamante was granted conditional release in 2016, accused of the death of the young Ambar Cornejo, which occurred last August, in the city of Villa Alemana.
Chevesich first said that “It is very regrettable that the Chamber of Deputies, in a divided vote, has declared that the constitutional accusation is allowed deducted against the Minister of the Court of Appeals of Valparaíso, Mrs. Silvana Donoso Campos ”.
He then pointed out that “although the Supreme Court respects the powers of the parliamentarians, in this case the deputies, to deduce accusations against the members of the higher courts of justice and the Chamber of Deputies to make room for it, it considers that the case concrete, as the grounds established in the Fundamental Charter are not configured, this is the notable abandonment of duties, concludes that the decision adopted constitutes a serious attack on one of the main values of the judiciary, which is judicial independence ”.
The minister spokesperson for the country’s highest court of Justice stated that “He hopes that the Senate shares this position and therefore rejects it.”
