The Linares Guarantee Court ordered this Thursday the reopening of the investigation into the death of Catherine Nicole Vásquez Muñoz, a case that shook that commune in the Maule region and raised doubts and questions from the bodies in charge of the investigations.

It was on May 29, 2018, when the 28-year-old body of the Secretary of the Transit Department of the Municipality of Linares was found hanging from a branch in a farm in the La Aguada de Longaví sector, 500 meters from his house.

Since then, what happened was classified as a suicide, but the family did not believe this version and insisted on various procedures and changes that did not materialize.

Thus, the plaintiff in the case insisted on the reopening of the investigation, which was accepted by Judge Claudia Olea Tapia, in order to resume the pending investigations that allow clarifying the circumstances in which Catita lost her life, as it was called by those close to it.

“The Public Ministry shall proceed to carry out the proceedings related to the taking of the testimony of the witnesses and the forensic expert, its form being determined by the prosecuting entity, according to its legal powers,” the judge ruled at the hearing of this Thursday.

Part of the magistrate’s decision is based on the fact that the first diligence in which the telephones of those involved were seized, for the purpose of carrying out expert reports, they did not correspond to the numbers referred to by the complainants.

Therefore – Olea estimated – “the proceedings were never carried out in the requested terms.”

Likewise, among other measures, it ordered that a statement be taken from the forensic expert, Luis Ravanal, who had access to the body.

According to the latter at the time, the belt with which the municipal official had taken her life could not be the cause of death, as it did not show any trace of her DNA.

“In accordance with the foregoing and bearing in mind the power granted by the legislator to the intervening parties, which rests on certain requirements, which are, to request the reopening within a certain period of time what the complainant did, that said measures were requested during the investigation, the request of the complainant party to proceed with the fulfillment of the aforementioned procedures ”, concludes the resolution.
