The Council of National Monuments (CMN) determined this Wednesday mantener location of the statue of General Baquedano in Plaza Italia.
By a majority of its members, in its plenary session this Wednesday, the Council reviewed the information related to the property since October 2019 and after taking cognizance of the results of recent monitoring of the sculpture, reliefs and its base, which do not account for new structural damage, it was agreed to ratify the agreement adopted in its session on January 8, 2020.
This means that the monument will be kept in its current location and the sculptural group will continue to be permanently monitored.
Likewise, what was agreed in January is maintained, in terms of evaluating the initiatives that may be presented both to keep it in place or requests for withdrawal, transfer and temporary protection of the property, making the technical skills and information of the CMN available .
The Council considered that an eventual transfer of the Monument should be the object of very careful planning, that includes in detail the procedures related to disarmament, form of transport, location, and conservation and restoration measures, in order to safeguard the integrity of the property.
