The Spanish pilot Fernando Alonso, a two-time Formula One world champion and who returns to the championship with the Alpine team this year, was hit by a car while riding a bicycle in the surroundings of Lugano (Switzerland), reports the Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport.
According to this sports newspaper, Alonso, champion in 2005 and 2006, “would have been run over by a car while training by bicycle on the Swiss roads near Lugano.”
Immediately rescued and admitted to a local hospital, the first radiological examinations would have shown possible fractures “added the aforementioned media.
Alpine F1, the brand new Spanish team, confirmed the situation through a statement and noted that “the Alpine F1 team can confirm that Fernando has been involved in a road accident while riding a bicycle in Switzerland.”
“Fernando is conscious and well; and is waiting to undergo further medical examinations tomorrow morning. The Alpine F1 team will not make any new demonstrations at the moment. Any news will be made public tomorrow ”, they added.
