The initiative presented this Tuesday by deputies Jaime Mulet (FRVS) and Rodrigo González (PPD), which seeks todelay the presidential and parliamentary elections for April 11, 2021 and put an end to Sebastián Piñera’s term before his time.

Led by the vice president of RN Paulina Núñez, the deputy head of the bench of deputies RN Karin Luck, the head of the UDI bench María José Hoffmann and her partner from Evópoli Luciano Cruz-Coke, the group of pro-government parliamentarians rejected the initiative, the that they called “coup and anti patriot”.

“Soft coup”

“We are facing a soft coup,” accused Paulina Núñez, who assured that “a soft coup is a set of non-frontal, non-violent techniques of a conspiratorial nature in order to destabilize a government and cause its fall.”

“If that is not what is behind the parliamentarians who today dared to present a project to not respect democracy, then we are facing what. Let’s say things as they are. They were not able to win the government and today they intend to send it to the house It will not work for them, “said the parliamentarian.

“This is ridiculous”

For her part, María José Hoffmann, regretted that: “the left wants to continue scoring victories leaving empty seats in the Government. For this reason, we call on these parliamentarians to stop creating democracy. “

“This is as ridiculous as us or the government itself presenting a bill to dilute Congress. What citizens are waiting for is that this Congress is at the height of what the country needs. But the only thing these types of bills do is reduce trust, continue damaging democracy, “added the union legislator.

Meanwhile, the head of the Evópoli caucus, Luciano Cruz-Coke, called for democracy to be taken care of “when some try in ways other than that of the popular vote, to try to appropriate the institutions and reach the presidency laterally.”

“Whoever breaks the rules of the game today is giving a signal of not respecting the rules of the game in the future. We call on democratic forces to reject these attempts by those who do not believe in democracy,” he concluded.
