The organizer and general producer of “Violeta Universal”, Berenice Ojeda, stated that “the main objective of this meeting is to incorporate voices and reflections from different cultures, to know how the expansive force of Violeta’s work is perceived and valued beyond our borders ”.
This Sunday, the renowned Chilean singer-songwriter Violeta Parra would have turned 103 years old. To commemorate the birth of the national folklorist, an icon of the country’s popular culture, different tributes will be held this day.
One of them will be the one raised by Radio U of Chile, which will bring together diverse exponents of the trova, poetry and South American folklore. “Universal Violet” will pay tribute to Violeta Parra with the participation of artists from Cuba, Spain, Portugal, Argentina and Chile.
Among the troubadours who will be present at the cultural meeting, will be presented Silvio Rodriguez, Cuban artist with more than 50 years of experience in popular music. The singer-songwriter will be accompanied by famous exponents, such as the musical group Illapu, and the Argentine troubadour Victor Heredia.

Also among the international guests will be the troubadour Vicente Feliú, the Portuguese fado singer Zé Perdigão, and the Argentine singer-songwriter Georgina Hassan. Representing Chile will be the troubadour Eduardo Peralta, the members of Finares Dúo, the root music cult of the Ñuble area, Luciana Ortega, and the Chilean singer-songwriter and guitarist, Javier Labbé.
From the area of poetry will be the Cuban writer, Alexis Díaz Pimienta, and the poet and payador Hugo González Hernández. From the academy, the Chilean musicologist and researcher Patricia Díaz, and the Spanish poet and professor of literature, Ramón García Mateos, will participate. Both will refer to the poetics and the sociocultural significance of Violeta’s work.

Regarding the name of the event, he pointed out that “it symbolizes the nature of Violeta and the difficulty and uselessness of pigeonholing her, of tying her to a univocal creative territory. When Violeta is named, a universe of meanings opens, a world that transcends books and museums, artistic styles and disciplines, that lives and beats in the current cultural scene of Chile and the world ”.
The event will start this Sunday, October 4, at 7 p.m. by the social platforms of Radio U de Chile, and by the Facebook page “Violeta Universal”.
