The National Prosecutor’s Office published on Sunday a “Report of Investigations for Irregular Financing of the Policy”, which summarizes the procedural situation of the Penta, SQM, Corpesca and Asipes cases.
The 24-page document was prepared by the Public Ministry’s Specialized Anti-Corruption Unit and details the status of the cases up to September, as well as the situation of each accused and the penalties requested.
The count shows that seven years of investigations into illegal political financing (started in May 2013, with the Corpesca case; 16 months later the Penta case, more media was opened) have left only 23 people convicted, but none of them in an oral trial.
The vast majority of the defendants – more than 300 – have been dismissed, have availed themselves of conditional suspensions of the procedure or have fought because the Prosecutor’s Office has decided not to persevere in the accusations against them.

PENTA CASE
– Convicted in abbreviated procedure: Five, among them Jovino Novoa and Pablo Wagner, and the businessmen Carlos Délano and Carlos Lavín.
-Conditional suspensions: 15, including Alberto Cardemil, Laurence Golborne, Iván Moreira and Pablo Zalaquett.
– Defendants awaiting trial oral: 15, including natural and legal persons
-Objectives: Six, including former senator Carlos Bombal and former deputy Felipe de Mussy.
-Decision not to persevere: 35.
-Provisional file: 26 people, including former minister Andrés Velasco and UDI senator Ena von Baer.
CORPESCA CASE
-Convicted in abbreviated procedure: Eight, including the former general manager of the fishery, Francisco Mujica.
– Defendants in oral proceedings: Four, including former deputy Marta Isadi and former senator Jaime Orpis.
-Decision not to perseverar: 11, including Senator Carlos Bianchi, Senator Alejandro García-Huidobro and former Senators Antono Horvath, Fulvio Rossi and Hosaín Sabag.
– Dismissal: Six people.
-Conditional suspension of the procedure: Eight people.
ASIPES CASE
-Decision not to persevere: 22 natural and legal persons, including former deputy Cristián Campos, deputy Frank Sauerbaum, former Undersecretary of Fisheries Raúl Súnico and Senator Jacqueline van Rysselberghe.
-Definitive dismissal: 15 natural and legal persons, including Senator Carlos Bianchi, the late Senator Antonio Horvath, and former Minister Pablo Longueira.
SQM CASE
– Defendants awaiting trial: Seven, including former manager Patricio Contesse, Marco Enríquez-Ominami, Cristián Warner and Pablo Longueira.
-Convicted with abbreviated procedure: 10 people, including the former accountant of the Eduardo Frei campaign Clara Bensán, the former president of the PRI Humberto de la Maza, the former vice-president RN Claudio Eguiluz, the political operator Giorgio Martelli and Sebastián Pizarro (son of Senator Jorge Pizarro).
-Decision not to persevere: 17, among them the former director of the Human Rights Museum Ricardo Brodsky, the former president of Enersis Jorge Rosenblut and the former director of the SII Michel Jorrat.
– Dismissal: 58 people, including Francisco Frei Ruiz-Tagle, José Tomás Longueira, son of Pablo Longueira, also dismissed; Senator Jorge Pizarro, former Senator Fulvio Rossi.
