The president of the Board of Directors of the Electoral Service (Servel), Patricio Santamaría, denied a series of “fake news” that have arisen in the face of the Constitutional Plebiscite that will take place next Sunday, October 25.
Through social networks Santamaría clarified some doubts that have arisen due to the Plebiscite process, such as the existence of a so-called “electoral jury” that -according to the clarification- “does not exist in Chile.”
“There are some supposed instructions from someone who claims to be a “electoral jury” We clarify that in Chile there are no the electoral juries, but the members. Therefore, the ‘position’ awarded by the person giving the instructions is FALSE, “Santamaría said.
Later, the president of the organization indicated that “it is indicated that the voters will be inked before they vote. That is also FALSE. “
This, he explained, because since it has not been inked for years the finger on the votes.
And, along these lines, Santamaría announced that “if the vote gets dirty with ink (which we have already seen is not used, except for those who do not know how to sign and must put their fingerprint on the Electoral Register) the vote would be null. it’s false”
“The only cause for the nullity of the vote is that more than one preference is marked in it“, he stressed.
With respect to blue paste pencil that must be carried by the voters on the day of the Plebiscite, Santamaría clarified that it is said that the well-known brand BIC should be used, however, he explained that “must not be of a specific brand”.
Finally, he concluded that “it is FALSE that it is required to go to vote with a disposable mask, just go with any mask that protects the voter“.
Some alleged instructions from someone who claims to be an “electoral jury” circulate. We clarify that in Chile there are no electoral juries, but members. Therefore, the “charge” awarded by the person giving the instructions is FALSE.
