Servel believes that there is little time to authorize people with covid-19 to vote in a plebiscite | National

After the government closed the door to enter or sponsor an initiative that allows the vote of people infected with coronavirus, the Electoral Service backed down from its initial declarations that there was time to legislate and emphasized that the times are up.

The president of the Board of Directors of Servel, Patricio Santamaría, said it in an interview with radio Bío Bío de Valparaíso.

A position that was reinforced moments ago in the Interior Government commission of the Chamber of Deputies, the director of Servel, Raúl García, who assured that the service has all the willingness to work on a solution but for the 2021 elections, for the October 25, the times are insufficient.

In that commission, the processing of a project by Deputy Andrea Parra began, which proposes a postal vote, which could even be extended to other people who also have an inability to mobilize.

There the Servel opted for differentiated systems, for example, for people in isolated areas or deprived of liberty, and for that reason they raised other options, such as early voting.

At the same time, Senators Pedro Araya and Guido Girardi presented a single article initiative that incorporates the mandate for Servel in conjunction with Minsal to agree on a formula for infected people and their close contacts.

The concern, they say, is that by October 25, many people will be infected and the legitimacy of the process may be questioned.

Another remote voting project is from RN Senator Francisco Chahuán, who already last week asked the Executive to sponsor his initiative to resolve the matter.
