He National Geology and Mining Service (Sernageomin) published a special activity report this afternoon for the Villarrica volcano, located in the La Araucanía Region.
According to the agency, “at 1:50 p.m. local time, The monitoring stations installed in the vicinity of the Villarrica Volcano recorded a long-period earthquake (LP) associated with a moderate explosion at the level of the active crater“.

The phenomenon was accompanied by “a grayish column with contribution of particulate material and emission of blocks with ballistic projection around the crater”.
Notwithstanding, no “significant changes were observed in seismic activity, (which) continues at levels similar to those observed prior to the reported event.”
For this reason, the volcanic technical alert remains at yellow level.
