This Tuesday the former Minister of Justice of Brazil, Sergio Moro, He revealed some conversations he had with Jair Bolsonaro since August 2019, in which the president asked him to appoint the Superintendent of the Federal Police of Rio de Janeiro.

“At the beginning of March 2020, I was in Washington, on an official mission with Dr. Valeixo (former Director General of the Brazilian Police); (Moro) received a message through WhatsApp from the President of the Republic, requesting, again, the replacement of the Superintendent of Rio de Janeiro, now Carlos Henrique; that the message was more or less as follows: ‘You have 27 Superintendencies, I only want one, the one in Rio de Janeiro” ”, they reported in a statement.

The ex-judge and now resigned Minister of Justice, Sergio Moro, revealed several conversations in which the president exerted pressure to change the Superintendent of the Federal Police of Rio.

It should be remembered that the Director General of the Police Maurício Leite Valeixo was fired by President Bolsonaro, which caused as a direct consequence the resignation of Sergio Moro.

According to Moro, in January of this year Bolsonaro warned him again (he had done so since August 2019) of his intention to dismiss Valeixo and appoint delegate Alexandre Ramagem to command the Federal Police.

The statement relates that “he thought about accepting to avoid an unnecessary conflict, but concluded that he could not change the Director General without a cause and that, since Ramage had close ties to the President’s family, this would affect the credibility of the Federal Police and the government itself ”, according to the O Globo newspaper.

“This Monday, Bolsonaro appointed the new director general of the Federal Police Rolando Alexandre de Souza, and one of his first measures was to change the command of the Superintendency of the Federal Police of Rio,” describes the aforementioned newspaper.

In addition, the document makes it clear that Moro “made the statements in his public statement to clarify the circumstances of his departure, to expose the misuse of the purpose already recognized by the Supreme Federal Court and with the aim of protecting the autonomy of the Police Federal”.
