While the President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, called Spain to “apologize” for the brutality with which the conquerors acted after the “discovery” of America, here the seremi of Cultures of the Metropolitan Region, Alejandra Novoa, tweeted a illustration showing conquerors and native peoples all happy celebrating the event.

The tweet, which immediately set social networks on fire, went with the following message: “Today we commemorate the development of two peoples, the fusion of cultures and the valuable exchange of resources and advances that today characterize our society. Very happy #DiaDelEncuentroDeDosMundos” .

The tweet and the image immediately went viral, unleashing a wave of criticism for the brutal treatment to which the native peoples of America were subjected in the midst of the Spanish conquest.

Such was the level of rejection, that quickly, Novoa’s tweet became a trend on Twitter.

The seremi, however, apologized for her criticized comment in another tweet: “I am publicly sorry for the inconvenience caused by my previous post and I want to ask my sincere apologies. The image used has no relation to the work we do daily. I don’t know. will repeat again “.

Without authorization

But the controversy did not stop there, since the illustration, which was published with the Seremi logo, would have been used without any authorization from its author.

In the same social network, the creator of the illustration (identified as @Genrus), wrote: “They only took it, but actually the worst thing is that the image is a parody, it is clearly made in shit, and I do not understand how someone it occurred to him that it would be useful to represent an event. “
