The Senators of National Renewal, Juan Castro and Manuel José Ossandón, they announced their support for the project that seeks that people can make a second withdrawal of 10% of their funds from the AFPs.
The initiative was approved yesterday – with broad support – in the Chamber of Deputies and was thus dispatched to the Upper House. As stated by the president of the Constitution Commission of said corporation, Alfonso De Urresti (PS), the second withdrawal would begin to be seen from this Friday in the instance.
In this context, both parliamentarians – who voted in favor of the first project – announced their support and joined the position of their UDI peer, Ivan Moreira, who pointed out through his Twitter account that “I will vote in favor of the new 10% Retirement for a matter of social sensitivity.”
Adding, furthermore, that “I prefer that the energies of my government aim at solving the problems of Chileans and not at developing a campaign against a new 10%, which is necessary.”
For his part, Ossandón indicated that the State “has not been able to alleviate” the economic effects of the Covid-19 pandemic and that “help is needed now.”
“Today we are facing an urgency and emergency. Most of the people do not have access to new income, because they are out of work, their salary was reduced or because they have problems in their company or SME. Until now, The State has not managed to directly alleviate these daily emergencies and unfortunately we will have to use the money that the people themselves have saved for their pensions”, Said the legislator.
Along these lines, he argued that “this it is a failure as a state and in the face of this I can only support the second withdrawal of 10% of the funds. Later we will have to work to recover those savings, so that there are no problems in the future forecast, but help is needed now. “
Also through your account Twitter, Senator Castro confirmed that he would support the initiative and, in addition, said that the aid to the middle class in the face of the crisis has not been up to par.
“I am going to approve again, and for a very simple reason: because the government has not lived up to what the people need, especially the middle class. It is regrettable that Chileans have to use their pension funds to get out of trouble, but it is even more regrettable that there are no concrete solutions to the difficult time that many families continue to live ”the senator explained.
In the first withdrawal of 10% of the funds from the AFPs, Castro proved decisive in his vote, calling on his fellow senators to have “10% humility and 10% humanity” when voting and make your decisions. This time he wants to go down that same line.
“People want this retirement, and we cannot deny it, especially due to a lack of management by the Executive. Although we have to be responsible when thinking about the pensions of our older adults, we also have to be responsible with the present, and today people continue to have needs. We must improve pensions, yes; we must protect our people now, too. We cannot get lost in that “, concluded the parliamentarian.
