The vice president of Senator Rabindranath Quinteros expressed his disagreement at the insistence of the Mineduc to implement the return to face-to-face classes. “The pandemic is not properly controlled to insist on the point of resuming classes in schools,” he said.

The parliamentarian pointed out that although specialists agree that children and young people are less likely to be infected, they can be carriers and contribute to the spread of the virus. “And that is a risk, especially in large families or with older adults,” commented the legislator who makes up the Senate Health Committee.

“Minister Figueroa seems not to want to hear what we are all saying to him,” Quinteros said.

He added that, “the College of Teachers opposes a face-to-face return, the education assistants as well. Families themselves are afraid to send their sons and daughters to school. The Medical College has also expressed its health concerns and we have done the same from Parliament ”.

“The Minister of Education today laments in the press and says that the issue has become politicized and that a campaign of terror is being carried out,” said the Vice President of the Senate, while reminding that today in the country there are 60 quarantined communes, 408,009 cases and 11,181 deaths. “Those are facts, it is not a campaign or speculation,” he emphasized.

For Senator PS, a decision of this type requires agreements and not unilateral decisions. “A measure of this type cannot be adopted by the government without consultation. It must be analyzed together by the authorities, specialists and educational communities. And from there to evaluate when and where it is possible to apply a gradual return, probably first with students who do not have access to the internet, those who need food, etc ”, he said.
