The Socialist Senator José Miguel Insulza harshly criticized the deputy Pamela Jiles, about the increase in popularity according to the latest polls and that the former foreign minister attributed to his “populism.
Recall that according to the latest Cadem poll, the parliamentarian reached 65% approval, increasing by 15 points since last August, breaking into highest rated political figure.
However, said increase would be related to “populism” and “demagoguery”, according to Senator Insulza in an interview with 24H.
“There are many people who always have a lot of traction, but I think they are a clear example of a form of populism that exists in the world today, which sometimes has left-wing features, other times it acquires right-wing features,” he questioned.
“But finally it is populism, easy-going, that believes that money is everywhere and that it never runs out and therefore what you have to do is do all the demagoguery possible,” he added.
In this sense, the socialist parliamentarian warned of the risks that are run as a country, of falling into “populist” policies.
“I don’t agree with her, she doesn’t seem like a very attractive character to me, but naturally today we live in a period in which people like populism,” Insulza insisted.
“This always ends badly, it does not end with a perfect democracy far from it, it ends with countries in conflict, without resources, with more inequality and with a not very large number of people taking their own benefit from a very strong fall in the country’s economy ”, He sentenced.
But despite his criticism, Senator Insulza assured that although at first he was not in favor of the second withdrawal of 10% of pensions promoted by Jiles, he will finally support it but due to the absence of measures by the Government.
“I was not in favor of doing it a second time, but I think the problem is the government. The problem is that there has been no disposition to put all the resources that can be put so that people can support themselves while the pandemic lasts ”, he concluded.
