After more than 6 years of processing, with 36 votes in favor, 0 abstentions and 0 against, the Senate approved and sent to law the bill that reduces the parliamentary diet and other authorities of the State of Chile, including the President of the Republic, ministers, undersecretaries and all positions of exclusive confidence of the president.

However, the automatic reduction of 50% that had been proposed during the process was canceled.

The Upper House approved the report of the Mixed Commission, also ratified by the Chamber of Deputies, leaving the remuneration in the hands of the High Public Management Council within the next 30 days after the law was enacted.

Then, and through an organic constitutional law, a commission made up of 5 people will be formed, who will be in charge of setting wages.

After the approval, the deputy Gabriel Boric, who promoted the initiative during its processing, maintained regarding the council that will set the salaries that “I hope to support pressures and the reduction is substantive and not symbolic.”
