The former president of BancoEstado, Sebastián Sichel, confirmed that he will be a presidential candidate in Chile’s Vamos primary, participating as an independent.

In an interview with Las Últimas Noticias, the former minister indicated that he had not defined whether he would participate in the presidential race until last Friday, when he presented his resignation after holding a meeting with President Sebastián Piñera.

“It was a long and private conversation with President Piñera that accelerated the decision-making of my departure, understanding that the presidential race had been advanced. I had to make a decision as to whether I was going to be a candidate,” he said.

In that sense, he announced that “I am a candidate for president as an independent in the Chile Vamos primary school. That is my decision.”

Asked about why he decided to participate in the presidential election, he stated that “I consider the next election to be one of the most momentous in the history of Chile and I think I can add the public and personal experience I have had to the diversity of Chile Vamos. of course I had to define if I wanted to be a candidate “.

Regarding what his priorities would be in an eventual administration, he indicated that “there are three key things that I have thought after my government experience.”

“First, assume the lack of social cohesion. We have an elite that governs and knows little about what happens in Chile. We need a government that does the job well. In the ministry and in the bank I realized how long it takes to pay for a license , through the queues at the bank and how a person can wait months for the social worker to arrive, “concluded Sichel.
