Scottish actor Sean Connery, who died at age 90 on Saturday, suffered from dementia and died “in peace,” according to his wife, quoted by The Mail on Sunday tabloid on Sunday.
“At least he died in his sleep and it was quiet. I was with him the whole time and it just went off. It’s what he wanted, ”said Micheline Roquebrune, a French painter whom the legendary 007 actor married in a second marriage in 1975.
“He suffered from dementia and this had really negative effects on him,” he revealed.
“It was magnificent and we had a wonderful life together,” Roquebrune also confessed. “It will be very difficult without him, I know. But this could not last forever and he left in peace, “he added.
Sean Connery died Saturday surrounded by his family in Nassau, in the Bahamas. “He was not well for a while,” his son Jason Connery told the BBC.
The Scottish performer was the first actor to wear the James Bond costume, in Satanic Dr. No in 1962.
During his five-decade career, Sean Connery won an Oscar, two Baftas and three Golden Globes.
His burial will be private, his family announced, which plans a commemorative ceremony when the covid-19 pandemic passes.
