South Koreans from Samsung have announced the app Samsung Health Monitor which will use the internal sensors of the current Galaxy Watch Active 2 to be able to measure and record blood pressure.
With that application, the smart watch will measure blood pressure through the data obtained with the heart rate monitoring sensors. Then the relationship between the calibration value and the change in blood pressure will be analyzed to determine the blood pressure.
The Samsung Health Monitor application was approved by the South Korean Ministry of Food and Pharmaceutical Security as a medical device and software, so that it turns out to be a valid instrument to monitor blood pressure.
Globally, high blood pressure is known to significantly increase the risk of brain, kidney, and heart disease, such as stroke and coronary heart disease when not managed properly.
By helping users measure and track their blood pressure, the Samsung Health Monitor app will give people a better view of their health and enable them to make more informed decisions, to lead healthier lives.
The Samsung Health Monitor app will be available on the Galaxy Watch Active 2 within the third quarter and will progressively expand to upcoming Galaxy Watch devices. It is unknown at the moment whether the app will work worldwide or its use will only be limited in South Korea.
