This Thursday the TAS confirmed the first instance ruling that the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) had imposed on Russia for a doping scandal since the manipulation of the sports database of the Moscow Laboratory was verified.
For this reason, the European country was sanctioned for four years where it could not compete in any international sports tournament because that country “has not complied with the World Anti-Doping Code.”
The CAS decided to lower the sentence and only applied two years of punishment, however, with this he will not be able to compete in the 2021 Olympic Games and the Qatar World Cup in 2022.
The ruling indicates that until December 16, 2022, Russian athletes are prohibited from participating under their anthem and their flag in any Olympic competition or world championships: this period includes the Tokyo Games, in July 2021, and those of Beijing winter, in February 2022, as well as the World Cup, of which Russia had just been the organizer, in 2018.
The sanction also prohibits organizing any tournament in that territory while the punishment period lasts.
Russia received the first sentence in December 2019 and appealed to CAS in second instance.
