Rodrigo Díaz, former mayor of the Bío Bío region, completed his reflection process and announced his decision to compete in the next elections as a candidate for regional governor.
In an interview with Radio Bío Bío in Concepción, he explained that It was defined after an extensive process of dialogue with social leaders, mayors, unions and workers in general, motivated by assuming a new popular election position and facing the inconveniences generated by centralism in regions.
After resigning from the Christian Democrats in August last year, he specified that – despite his long ties with the concertation and the New Majority – he will run as an independent candidate.
“It is the most difficult way, I am fully aware that if I agreed to register for a party or for a coalition I would have no problem and I would already be registering for the next election in April, “he said, so he will have to gather thousands of signatures to finalize his application. .
Regarding the importance of decentralizing the country, he stressed that “The Bío Bío region has to dream big. We have all the capabilities, we are from the largest regions of the country and we can’t have a mediocre pace. We cannot keep doing things on a small scale, entangled in small policy discussions. For that, the correct path seems to be independent ”, he assured.
In this context, he stated that he has the “courage and the pants” to represent the Bío Bío region, especially after the reflection process he underwent after the social outbreak of last October.
He also announced that On his independent path, many people who were close to him during his time in the Bío Bío quartermaster will be with him. and that – at the same time – if he is elected he will convene a cross-sectional group of people, equal, and with deep love for the area, he said.
