The Supreme Court of National Renewal (RN) reported this Friday its decision to revoke the resolution adopted by the general council of the party to postpone the internal election for next year.
According to information from T13, the court met on Thursday night. David Huina and Gonzalo Cisternas did not attend the meeting. In fact, the latter withdrew before addressing the resolution.
In the four-page sentence – to which T13 had access – the court asks the table to call internal elections with a deadline until May 2021.
One of the paragraphs of the resolution says that “it is up to the National Board to determine the date for the holding of the general elections of the party, within the reasonable margins, of those established by law and the Statutes of the same, ensuring that they coincide with the expiration of the period of the authorities in exercise, in the best interest of the party, excluding any arbitrariness “.
Along these lines, the National Board, led by its President Rafael Prohens Espinosa, is “instructed to proceed in a timely manner to set the date for the internal election of National and territorial Boards, for a date that does not exceed six months from the day of natural term of the mandate, in compliance with article 54, first and final paragraphs “.
This decision means a hard setback for the bloc led by Ministers Mario Desbordes and Cristián Monckeberg, who were betting on postponing the elections.
Meanwhile, Senator Francisco Chahuán was satisfied with the decision and told T13 that “the ruling of the Supreme Court of the party is the triumph of the institutionality, it is the triumph of internal democracy, and demands that the table set the date of elections of all its estates. I have no doubt that in the face of the electoral cycle that is beginning, it is important to have empowered directives and that there be cleanliness in their internal processes. “
