The Senator Carmen Gloria Aravena and the deputies, Miguel Mellado and Jorge Rathgeb, asked the Government that the army take over the security of the Araucania region.

The above, given the recent escalation of violence that has been registered in the last day.

Let us remember that since Friday, a string of acts of violence have been registered in La Araucanía, with bullet attacks on Carabineros, the burning of an evangelical church, to which are added the burning of vehicles on Route 5 and machinery at work forestry.

The series of attacks coincide with the commemoration of the crime of Mapuche community member Camilo Catrillanca, happened two years ago.

In this regard, Senator Aravena pointed out that “in La Araucanía we are being attacked with war tactics and the Government does not want to recognize it.”

“Every day we are suffering clashes, it is urgent to recognize that this is terrorism and if we have a weak government that does not want to see reality, this will continue to increase,” he added.

“We urgently need the Army to take control of La Araucanía,” concluded Senator Aravena.

The deputy Miguel Mellado, for his part, affirmed that “this was warned, there was no anticipation of these events, there is no intelligence to avoid the violent events widely announced.”

“We have an absent government and the victims in utter helplessness,” lamented the official parliamentarian.
