This Monday, after 11.00, the president of RN, Rafael Prohens, and the secretary general of the party, Felipe Cisternas, left in the direction of the UDI headquarters to meet with their peers Jacqueline van Rysselberghe and Felipe Salaberry, respectively.
The appointment took place in the midst of tensions and differences regarding the criteria to settle in which communes should be held municipal primaries. This, before the deadline for the registration of those previous elections expires this Wednesday 30.
During the meeting, which was also attended by Vice President RN José Miguel Arellano, commune by commune and the places where there is still no consensus in the block were analyzed. This, to try to unlock the negotiation.
However, The meeting ended without an agreement being sealed, so the ruling parties will continue negotiations during this Tuesday, when there will be only one day left to register the candidatures.
Even so, It transpired that certain progress was made at the meeting, but the parties preferred to keep the details in reserve.
Although the negotiations started under the criterion that in areas where there are pro-government mayors who are up for re-election, primaries are not held, while in other places where councilors cannot go for another term or there are communal leaders of the opposition, they could choose that alternative, that determination is not has reached a full agreement.
For example, in the Metropolitan Region there are still several pending communes. Y one of the places that has stressed the coalition the most has been Vitacura. There, Raúl Torrealba (RN) cannot run for re-election and his party has stated that the candidate must be RN, while the UDI and Evópoli insist that primaries have to be held. For that commune, RN has two options -Max del Real and Carlos Cruz-Coke-, while the union is betting on Pablo Zalaquett, and Evópoli, on Camila Merino.
In fact, In parallel to the meeting led by the helmsmen of RN and the UDI, Evópoli held a press point with his candidate for Vitacura on Monday, which was also joined by Zalaquett. This, with the aim of pressuring RN to access primary schools, since if the signatures of all the presidents of Chile Vamos are not present, they cannot be registered.
“Not doing primaries in a district like Vitacura is to nominate the candidates with the finger (…). We call on our coalition partners to understand that this is a matter of principle. The time has come when we have to face the citizens ”, said the deputy and president of Evópoli, Andrés Molina, while Zalaquett said: “Let the neighbors decide.”
In the middle of this stage in Evópoli and the PRI caused annoyance that RN and the UDI held a meeting without them present. “I didn’t know about that meeting, it surprises me. The important thing is that where there are competitive candidates, there are primaries, because there are no fiefdoms ”, said the jhead of the Evópoli bench, Luciano Cruz-Coke, while the president of the PRI, Rodrigo CaramoriHe argued that “the primaries are a valid democratic tool, where more than one party has competitive candidates.”
Other areas of the Metropolitan Region for which disagreements have been generated are Colina and Lo Barnechea, among other.
