From 22:00 on this Thursday, the commune of Pedro Aguirre Cerda, in the southern sector of the city of Santiago, lives its first night under total quarantine, a measure adopted by the Ministry of Health to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
The journey began with incidents in the caletera de Avenida General Velásquez (northbound), Departmental corner.
In that sector, close to the Lo Valledor market, Barricades “were extinguished by Carabineros personnel in company with the Army”, reported Lt. Cristopher Espinoza, round officer of the Santiago Rinconada Prefecture.
Also, from inside an apartment block, they launched stones against some police and military patrols who carried out vehicle controls, but without direct confrontations or injuries. At about 1:20 p.m. on Friday, carabinieri responded by dropping at least two tear gas bombs towards the parking lots of the building to disperse the launchers.
Finally, from the uniformed institution they reported that there were no detainees for this fact.
In Lieutenant Espinoza’s opinion, “there are still people who do not understand that the police function is not to come to combat some situation against them and their negativity against us manifests it this way.”
“We are doing patrols with the support of the military forces throughout the night and for the next seven days of quarantine,” said the officer.

Chile is under state of emergency due to catastrophe since last March 18, with a curfew from 10:00 pm, with borders, schools, universities and all non-essential businesses closed.
Although it is one of the three countries with the most cases in the region, Chile has not decreed mandatory confinement at the national level, as others with less contagions like Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia and Peru have done.
The Government has chosen a model of “selective and strategic quarantines”, with movement restrictions that are imposed and are lifted weekly in each commune or in each city depending on the epidemiological data of infections.
In addition to Pedro Aguirre Cerda, at 22:00 this Thursday the quarantine measure began to apply in the communities of Quinta Normal and the southern area of Independencia., from Calle Gamero to the Río Mapocho, in the Metropolitan Region.
It was also extended, for one more week, the isolation measure in El Bosque, the northern area of Ñuñoa and Santiago, the northeastern sector of San Bernardo and the western sector of Puente Alto.
Also spread in the urban sector of Arica, Temuco and Osorno, in addition to Punta Arenas.
In parallel, the total quarantine culminated for Chillán and Chillán Viejo.
