Riot attempt on Hill 1 generates serious disorders and leaves 4 gendarmes injured, one of them seriously

An attempted riot inside the Colina 1 prison generated serious disorders and left at least four gendarmes wounded, one of them seriously, and an indeterminate number of inmates injured.

According to information from the Gendarmerie, the disorders originated after a group of 400 Inmates of Towers 3B and 4A “resist” a search and search procedure.

Gendarmerie Colonel Víctor Provoste, metropolitan regional director, stated: “There is a situation of general mutiny of the penal population of Colina 1, as a result of last night fights were generated in Tower 4A. As a result of this, the personnel carried out a search raid on said tower, which led to the rejection of the inmates of this tower and of the entire prison population. ”

From the institution it was pointed out that the situation is already under control.

“Given that the inmates refused to have a more passive attitude, the specialized groups were called upon, and they carried out the entire takeover of the unit, managing to contain the general mutiny,” added Provoste.

Gendarmerie Lieutenant Colonel Andrés Muñoz, national secretary of Anop, pointed out that “these procedures, which are carried out on a frequent basis with the purpose of investigating prohibited elements that are concealed by the prison population, led to the inmates of that establishment channeling their annoyance with acts of violence ”.

“This situation has seriously endangered the comprehensive security of the establishment and above all that of our officials. We are extremely concerned about the escalation of conflicts in penal settings, adding a total of 19 to date“He added.

According to video records, objects were burned inside the prison, so Fire personnel arrived at the scene to control the flames.

These events are in addition to the three riot attempts that have been registered in the Puente Alto Prison. The last one, on April 22, April, involved 400 inmates and left five gendarmes injured.
