The owner of Casa Lastra, hostel located at the foot of the butterfly hill in Valparaíso, started a raffle in which he raffles the residence that has a commercial value that exceeds 300 million pesos. The number costs $ 10,000.
The property, which dates from 1909, has 400 square meters built, and is a heritage house in Valparaíso. Ángel Naranjo is the owner of it, and decided to raffle it after operating it since 2017.
In 2016, Ángel decides to start with this hostel. He bought the property and after investing 100 million pesos in its repair, he opened the site for different guests, mainly foreigners who came to the region.
The idea for the business came after Naranjo returned from a year-long trip to New Zealand. He set the following goal: in six months, to be in the Top 5 of online reservations, this is in Booking, Airbnb, and other websites. He did it in four months of operation.
Change of course
However, in 2019 the social outbreak, which according to the owner, “paralyzed sales”, since tourism in Valparaíso began to decline “.
In an interview with Radio Bío Bío, Ángel recalled that, for example, in November of last year, they sold 300 thousand pesos, “which they didn’t even give to pay a salary,” he explained.
In that year the idea of selling the property arose, and officially in January 2020 they decided to do it through different brokers, but this was not carried out due to the different processes in the country; the consequences of the outbreak and later in March, the beginning of the pandemic in Chile.
In that month the doors of Casa Lastra closedAccording to the owner, no one invested in tourism anymore, so the bank fees began to fall behind.
It was in July 2020 when approximately the bank told him that: either he would catch up or they would “take everything away”, the debt was 14 million pesos. At 2:00 in the morning of that day thought about getting around the property and contacted a lawyer friend. Finally on the night of the next day, he knew that he could.
The man explained to Radio Bío Bío that he bought the property for $ 110 million, and pointed out that on November 25 he started with the online raffle, with which they go “super well.” To date, he has sold 1000 tickets and his goal is 45 thousand.
