A group of retired soldiers arrived this morning until the Baquedano square to pay homage and perform an act of reparation to the General Manuel Baquedano, after yesterday the momentary retirement of the monument that honors him was decided.
The decision was made yesterday on Council of National Monuments (CMN), after attacks against the statue occurred again in recent days.
Last Friday and Monday individuals they set fire to the monument, while the last day mentioned individuals they tried to tear her down with various tools.
These events were added to situations that occurred in the social outbreak where the statue was constantly vandalized and also suffered an attempted collapse.
Finally, the CMN decided that the monument was the work of the Chilean sculptor Virginio Arias and the architect Gustavo García will be removed for restoration due to various damages.
For this reason, retired soldiers arrived this morning to pay tribute to Baquedano and leave flower offerings.
The individuals also sang songs and criticized how the protection was given to the monument due to the damage it suffered.
