The initiative, which in January had been approved by the Senate, received 74 votes in favor, 63 against and 2 abstentions.
Now the project will go to a mixed commission, which will be attended, by the Chamber, deputies Luis Pardo (RN), Jorge Alessandri (UDI), Leonardo Soto (PS), Matías Walker (DC) and Jorge Brito (RD) ).
The constitutional reform project grants the President of the Republic the power to decree that the Armed Forces can protect critical infrastructure without this measure affecting or restricting the rights and guarantees established by the Political Constitution and emerged after the vandalization of Metro stations. and other acts of violence that occurred after the social outbreak of last October.
The initiative was defended in the room by the Minister of Defense, Mario Desbordes, but was strongly rejected by opposition parliamentarians.
