The Chilean poet and writer Raúl Zurita won the XXIX Reina Sofía Prize for Ibero-American Poetry on Tuesday, the most important recognition of poetry in Spanish and Portuguese.
The ruling was announced by the president of National Heritage of Spain, Llanos Castellanos, whose prize, which is also awarded by the University of Salamanca, consists of about 42,100 euros (about 39 million pesos).
After a telematic meeting carried out by the jury, Castellanos recognized that the work of the Chilean poet and “his poetic example of overcoming pain”.
The award, which last year fell into the hands of Joan Margarit, aims to recognize the whole of the work of a living author who, due to its literary value, constitutes a relevant contribution to the common cultural heritage of Ibero-America and Spain.
